Osmosis 2013

Posted on: 08 July '13

‘The brain teasing, binary crunching, adrenalin pumping tech event is back’– We started our Osmosis 2013 campaign with this tag line and the event, as it played out, stayed true to every word. The 2013 Osmosis had to be designed as an event that was in sync with our brand new image, identity and values. We chose ‘Expert Thinking’ as the focus – and why not? There couldn’t have been a better re-invention of a festival of nerds as it was called in previous editions. Thus was born “Osmosis 2013 – Bring out the Expert in You”.

Every year Osmosis is different, but 2013 truly held something unique. This month-long event enthused, engaged and brought out the expert within us. During the month, Mindtree Minds were introduced to a variety of Osmosis tracks. Some were familiar, while others were new like Techathlon, Architectalk, and ExpertSpeak – interesting events that took the event a notch higher. The tracks celebrated technology as used to address business issues.

We had 6 diverse tracks designed in synergy with the chosen theme.

  1. TechWorks
Mindtree Minds were given a set of top technical challenges, posed by sponsors from across the organization. They chose among problem statements, formed teams, developed solutions and demonstrated the solutions on a grand DEMO DAY!
Over 30 teams unleashed their technical prowess and fought it out to present the best solutions. The best part is that the sponsors are now using the winning solutions.
  2. Techathlon
The word ‘Techathlon’ is derived from ‘Decathlon’, to symbolize similar event attributes and the sporting spirit. Everyone was invited to participate.
The Techathlon event consisted of five contests and each participating Mind had to complete all these challenges to be a contender for the top three positions. Techathlon assessed the participating Minds on a number of skills, and required them to apply their expertise on a wide array of technical challenges. It tested efficiency via a multitude of tasks and gave ample opportunity for Minds to apply ‘Expert Thinking’. The winner bagged the title of “Techie of the year”.
  3. Knowledge Safari
Knowledge Safari showcased the IGs / practices within Mindtree. It was designed in a unique way to show their world, their progress, and their journey during the past year, to the entire Mindtree World. The safari also played a part in sharing the thought leadership at work.
We had over 39 stalls set up across locations with an enthusiastic participation. It was a day that will be long remembered!
  4. Architectalk
‘Architecture Conclave’– the flagship event by the Central Architecture Group (CAG) is a very successful confluence of our senior architects who participate in technology and architecture discussions from across the globe. Osmosis 2013 brought a select set of these talks to the benefit of a larger Mindtree audience. ‘Architectalk’ as the event was christened, involved a series of tech talks by our architects around the theme of ‘The Evolving Enterprise’, and how our solutions must evolve with them.
The presentations also shared the architectural experiences in key accounts, as well as work done on cutting-edge areas like streamed data analytics.
  5. PM Conference
The theme of Mindtree Project Managers’ Practitioners Conference track for 2013 was ‘Customer-Centric Project Management’. Traditional project management focused on processes and delivery excellence. Today’s project management requires all of this plus an additional focus on ‘partnering with the customer’ for mutual success. This half-day conference invited external speakers, leaders in their profession, to share their views on customer-centricity, project management and their application in today’s world!
  6. ExpertSpeak
An expert is someone who has immense experience and deep knowledge in a particular field. They are recognized widely as a reliable source of information and are often called on for advice in their area of expertise.
Keeping with the theme of Osmosis, ExpertSpeak was an event for Mindtree Minds to listen and interact with experts from various industries. What was so different about ExpertSpeak? The event gave Mindtree Minds an opportunity to witness the passion that the experts brought to their work.

An important factor we kept in mind while designing Osmosis 2013 was the ‘Reach’. We wanted the event to touch Mindtree Minds globally, across multiple geographies. We enabled a live streaming of Architectalk, PM Conference and ExpertSpeak. We ran the entire Techathlon and Techworks through virtual channels which helped us connect with our global colleagues. We also established our presence through media channels like Facebook and Internet. The icing on the cake was when Osmosis was broadcast ‘live on Air’ (radio) on the final day.

With Osmosis, we showed the world that we are truly an expertise led organization-in deed and in spirit.
