Software Product Engineering – A Global Phenomenon

Posted on: 14 June '10

Software Product Engineering (SPE) continues to be one among the important facets of the IT industry. We belong to the era of Cloud Computing that is aimed at optimization, consolidation and eco-friendliness. Also we are part of an era where there are huge investments happening on Second Life products. These are products being developed in order to support humans to enhance day-to-day living. Also there are products coming up for entertainment and illusionary delight. This Engineering story started with the production of very stable software products that have been running on mainframes for several decades. The story is seemingly promising with a bright future, and all through the course of this transformation, one thing that has remained as relevant as ever is Software Product Engineering. SPE has had to transform on several occasions to keep in tune with the changing times.

Beyond doubt, Software Product Engineering is a global phenomenon that involves both producers and consumers across geographies. All over the world, there are innovators, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, practitioners, user groups, teachers and students who dream, live and breathe SPE. Some of us in Mindtree are of that ilk. As you may guess, I am one of them.

Blogging and collaborating on SPE during such a wonderful time is going to be very exciting for all of us. My blogs are going to be on SPE under selected categories such as “Product Engineering in Global Context” and “Value-Based Engineering”. At times my blogs may include topics related to “Product Engineering Management” as well.

SPE is an interesting and evolving subject for all professionals in our industry. It is multi-dimensional, distinctive, challenging and rewarding. I feel highly privileged to start this blog on this niche area. Let us make it an actively collaborative experience!

I work with an ITes company that has in the past 12 to 14 months started looking at SPE as a separate vertical / division and not just an enabler for solutions. I’m one of the team members in the capacity of Product manager and SME. I’m a big fan of Mind Tree and would love to read blogs related to this subject and contribute my views, if any.

  • Thanks Ramith! Good to know that you are a big fan of MindTree. Keep reading our blogs on Software Product Engineering and share your views.
